GUSTY NORTHERLY
When I got to the harbor early in
the afternoon, there was a nice Westerly breeze showing on the flags. Reports from sailors that had gone out were
that the winds were 20 to 23 knots outside.
As the afternoon proceeded, the wind shifted to a northerly. When we left the harbor at 5pm, the winds
were coming from 300 degrees and we called for course N6:
S/F>Gov>S/F. All fleets got off
to a clean start. As the race proceeded,
there were times of light winds followed by healthy 13 knot gusts. It worked out as planned as all boats
finished as the sun setting. It was nice
sailing with another Northerly breeze.
We had a great BBQ at the club.
It was a great last Tuesday Night sail of the season.
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON:
Tuesday Night Sailing has been
very successful. While I put effort into
it, I could not do it alone. I have
several people that are invaluable in keeping it going. Fred Molnar is always there with advice,
Chris Hofmann is also a huge help. Mark Mccord fills in when I am gone and of
course Paul Tara with his popular Zoop Scoop has been a huge plus. Doug Mahone with his expertise in using Regatta
Hero has been essential. The support of the club and Casey are a huge
plus. Last but not least, is my
consistent crew that employs Regatta Hero. Zach Shepard and James Amendolagine are
proficient with the program and often must make last minute adjustments as conditions
change. We couldn’t do it without them!
TUESDAY AFTERNOON SAILING:
Starting next Tuesday, November 3,
will be Tuesday Afternoon Sailing starting at 3pm. Winter sailing is different from Summer
sailing. We have stormy weather,
shoaling at the harbor entrance and big waves which may prevent sailing on some
Tuesdays. Be sure that at least one
member of your crew is registered in the Tuesday afternoon sailing so you can
get the text notification if the race is canceled.
Since this is a series for
retirees and people with flexible schedules, we frequently have fewer boats
coming out. With fewer boats, it may be better
to have a single start. Listen on
channel 69 for announcements regarding a single start. We may just announce for everyone to register
in Fleet B depending on how many boats are out.
Food and the bar will be open at
club after the races. If we want this
food and bar service to continue, we
should participate to make it worth while for the club.
